Lesson plan self evaluation (to be done individually)

SELF-EVALUATION OF LESSON PLANS
You need to report on the difficulties that you have had during the process of lesson plan preparation, the limitations that you have felt during the preparation of the lesson plan, the points that you would like to change about your plan, the benefits that you think you have gained out of the lesson planning process.

  1. ı think dhere are some dificulties of preparing lesson plean and the most difficult part is writing clear, applicable, and understandable objectives. actually it is okay to write objectives but it is so hard to make it clear, especially applicable and it is very boring to write some objective that you won't apply because you should stict to the aims and objectives you should never miss the topic. ı think my lesson need some changes it need some more otantic and interesting activities and a better worm up procces. but actually it was good. of course preparing a lesson plan gained us something very important for us. becausewe are prospective teachers wee will allways prepare lesson plans and this one was our nearly first experience. now ı know how to prepare a lesson plan maybe not a perfect one but a sufficient one. because ı had never write a lesson plan before, this one make me feel more like a teacher. it was a very vital experience for me.

  2. I think the most difficult part of preparing a lesson plan is to decide on what will you teach and in what way you will teach. I mean, to create the context which is about your lesson and the subject that you will teach. After deciding on what subject your lesson will focus the second difficulty comes: in what way, how you will teach. as you understand finding right activities which are suitable both for the aims of the lesson and the level of the students. and also, finding materials for ythe activities is another difficulty as we don't have many sources or equipments rather that internet.of course, the internet is a very useful source but sometimes it doesn't work.no matter how a difficult process to prepare a lesson plan is, knowing that it will be always useful in the future made us relieved and we worked on it in an enthusiastic way.

  3. First of all,I agree with Songül; while preparing our lesson plan we have also encountered the same hardships. For example, scenarios are I think limited because the students' profile are mostly restricted,I mean the students in the scenarios are mostly preparing for exams or their ages create problems to select appropriate activities to apply on them. We cannot apply all the activities for a 35-55 year-old-group, or we are limited in using speaking activities for the group which is preparing for a written exam. However this restraints contribute our creativity in finding or applying different, proper classroom tasks or how to modify inappropriate activities to the class environment. And also this lesson plan contributed the differentiation and specification of objectives and aims in our existing schema.Integrating different skills into each other was also a bit challenging but we got used to it by preparing lesson plans. And when we completed our lesson plan, as prospective teachers our self-confidence was strengthened.

  4. While preparing a lesson plan the first difficulty for us is choosing the topic then finding suitable materials and activities. Both the topic and activities should be sutable for the level, age and diversity of the students and also objectives of the lesson. after we pass these dfficulties, we come to the enjoyable part which is to use the lesson plan in the class environtment.

  5. While preparing the lesson plan, we have difficulties about finding the appropriate activities. Because our students' level was obvious and we had to find listening part according to their level. Then we had to find proper activities for this listening part and had to integrate them. Also, we have difficulties while writing our objectives about our lesson. We can add some smooth transitions between activities because we skipped from one activity to the other very quickly. We learned how to prepare a lesson plan while preparing this sample. Now we can integrate different skills in a lesson and we have some ideas about how to prepare activities. Furthermore, we learned how to write rationale and objectives of a lesson. I think it was a very useful activity for us.

  6. Before beginning to a lesson plan; we had to decide upon a scenario. It was the first difficult step for me because the whole lesson plan would be shaped according to these scenarios and we had to form the lesson plan in the lights of the criteria written in our scenarios.
Later, we had to find some activities which are suitable for intermediate students and all these activities should be integrated. This is the second part that we had hard times because you can find a lot of activities, but they have to be integrated and shouldn't be so different than the other. Otherwise, we can't make smooth transitions.
Next thing was to write objectives and rationale. Firstly, we had hard times while differentiation the first one from the other, but then everything became clear when we looked at the sample lesson plans.
The last difficulty was timing, I guess. One can never be sure about the time because you'll be in a class and there might be some unexpected events and etc.
I think we prepared a good lesson plan as a group, but every time there's a room for improvement right?
Our activities are useful for students, but they lack of transitions. I'm not sure whether there's a smooth transition between activities or not. Another thing is the objectives. There might be some points that we should be more specific or more general.
All in all, this was the first time we -REALLY- prepared a full, elaborate lesson plan. That's why I like it. I, as a prospective teacher, will use lesson plans every time in my teaching career and lesson plan preparation helps us a lot. Now I know how to prepare a lesson plan(not basically, but really.)

  7. As we preparing our lesson plan, firstly we must have decided what kind of a skill we will focus on and how we could apply all things we thought about it in class in a harmony on a specific subject. I mean we thought that we should prepare all our exercises on a same topic to be able to provide a lesson on a relevant context. Therefore, we mostly have difficulties in choosing our activities and preparing them. Also, we tried to make appropriate transitions between our activities and we added some extra parts to our activities partly related to other skills we want our students improve in class so it seems the lesson won't be boring anyway. We additionally took care of mostly visualing all steps with pictures, games and charts. I think preparing a lesson plan provides us a great deal of experience in being a good teacher.

  8. when we preparing our leeson plan, at the beginning we decided our topic. After we chose the topic about which we will prepare our lesson plan, we dealt with the way how we apply in practice. We decided our activities and behaved carefully about activities that students will enjoy while doing them. We made very good relations between the activities and we tried to choose enjoyable activities. Also we tried to provide students to achive the aims of the lesson. Therefore, we wanted or tried to to make our best and I believe we did. And, I think this lesson and lesson plan is very useful for us and for our future life as a teacher. We need informative and beneficial lessons like this lesson and I think all of us gained really good experiences end these experinces will be very helpfull in our teacher life.

  9. Before we start our lesson plan, as a guide using one of the scenarios the teacher send was good for us. Also appliying the criterias to our lesson plan was both nice and sometimes hard. Still that was helpful for us in terms of being leader to our lesson plan.
Then we made brainstormings about the activities which are appropriate for our students. After making discussions to find creative and enjoyable activities, there was a draft in our minds. But activities shoud be integrated with each other. So we eliminated some of them.
Moreover I can say that, the help of ELT Methodology, we applied the steps to our lesson plan.I hope We were successful.
The parts which includes objective and rationale require time and contemplate on them. But I thougt that we could comprehend the importance of these parts.Because the most crucial point of a lessson plan, objectives and rationale in my opinion. As these give us the logic and core of the lesson plan.We learned what and how we would apply the steps and activites effectively.
Later we talked about the problems which colud be encountered in the class while we were trying to apply our plan and the solutions to these. Thanks to these,we were aware of the faults and deficient points,we took the precautions about them.
Of course there could be unexpected things in the classroom. Everything doesn't go how we have planed. We thought about it as well and decided the contingency plan. That is also one of the most important thing in a lesson plan.
As a prosperious teacher, preparing the lesson plans will be a part of our lifes. So I enjoyed preparing my first such an elaborate lesson plan in sipite of some diffucilties. After we finished it, seeing that we succeed ,was good:)

  11. First problem while preparing lesson plan we had difficulties in finding materials suitable with their level. In the web there are many materials but the difficult part is to fit all materials with the level of the students and presenting those materials during the lesson. Second problem was the timing of the lesson, because we did not have any experience with teaching in the class we could not decide whether the times we gave for each activity is appropriate or not. Because of this reason we decided to prepare contingency plan which was also difficult to fit it with our topic and scenario.
I think I would change or add some ideas or active games to contingency plan part and do it more applicable but because the age of our students are a little bit older we couldn’t add games or very active activities.
Nevertheless, it was very good experience for us to work in group because each person had their own opinion and it was easy to concentrate on the topic because everybody shared their ideas. Working all alone would be good as well but having ideas from other people is very useful so I think that was very great to have friends around.

  12. This was our first lesson plan that we prepared after learning how to prepare one; therefore we have to pay attention to many things such as writing objectives and goals. We have also had difficulty to choose our scenario and finally we decided to work with beginner students so that we can do many enjoyable and different activities. After choosing the activities we also couldn’t easily decide on the sequence of the activities, starting with listening or reading or where to put the games. In addition, how much to spare for one activity was also a big deal for us. However, we were working in groups of three and therefore when we meet such problems, one of us come up with an idea and we solve our problem.

  13. This lesson plan is also my first lesson plan as my friends'. firstly choosing a topic and finding and creating apropriate materials and activities was really hard for us, because we need to find a topic that allows to integrate different skills. then the second diffucilty was how to integrate them, as there should be a relavance between activities.
Also, writing objectives was very difficult, because we had trouble with deciding which ones are goals and which ones are objectives, but I think we managed it.
another difficulty was timing. as we haven't had real classroom experiences, we don't know which activity requires how much time exactly. we tried to guess and wrote them approximately. I think we prepeared a lesson plan that can be applicable in real classroom.

  14. We had to take consideration into the age and level of our students, so we tried to choose the most suitable group for us. To decide which one is the best scenario was a bit hard, because there were two scenarios in the beginner level and at first we chose the older group but then we decided that it would be hard to play a funny game or to provide a suitable lesson plan for them so we chose the younger group. Until this one, we hadn`t prepared such an eloborate lesson plan, the lesson plans we had prepared was some kind of mini lesson plans and this one was difficult. Then we wanted to find a song about imperatives and we wanted our students to do whatever this song commands but we couldn`t find a song which is also suitable for beginner level so we decided to sing our song. Unfortunately, the god didn`t give this gift to me and so ceren and hilal, mostly hilal sang the song. It was a bit hard to sing for hilal under our smiling eyes but anyway she succeded. We had fun while preparing the lesson plan and thanks to my friend ceren and hilal.

  15. This was the first time we prepared a lesson plan for young learners, so we lived a bit difficulty in finding a topic and teach it with activities which were both enjoying and appropriate for ages of 6-8 Also, these activities had to be appropriate for the age of 6-8 and we had to take the time into consideration. Apart from these, the other difficulty we lived while preparing our lesson plan was that we had to pay attention to the concept of multiple intelligences and the scenario according to which the students we would teach were hyperactive. That is, we had to find various activities which would be helpful for our students with different types of intelligence and prevent them to get bored. For this reason, searching for activities with these criteria was a limitation for us.
Other than the difficulties, we really enjoyed ourselves while preparing our lesson plan because we came up with an enjoying topic and found many entertaining activities with colorful materials.During this process, we realized the differences in techniques and materials used for intermediate learners and beginner learners or adult and young learners, which was a benefit we gained from that lesson plan. Moreover, as we thought about how much time we would give for each part of presentation, we improved on using time efficiently.

  16. Before starting our lesson plan, we decided what we can do and discussed whether that would be appropriate for our age level. I think the most difficult part was to find the appropriate teaching way for the age level and I think it is because we are not experienced on this. The other thing that is challenging for us was to make the lesson plan seem like a real lesson that can be put into practice. I think, sometimes we think much on theory and when we imagine the lesson written on paper, it doesn’t seem much realistic. With this lesson plan I think we gained more experience with integrating skills and timing our lesson. Yes, we are becoming real teachers. Coming soon…

  17. the most difficult thing while preparing the lesson plan was being able to choose the lesson topic that is appropriate for the level of students and being able to link several skills required for the subject. we chose the beginner level students at the age of 6-8 because we thought that we can make use of the hyperactivity of the children. also we thought that the children at that age need to improve their kinesthetic intelligences and learn better that way. another challenge about the lesson plan was deciding the objectives because we had to write them in a specified way and we couldn't exactly know whether we used convenient verbs or not. the only limitation is the time generally but because we had flexible time we had no limitation about the plan. I think all our lesson plans can be developed but we all tried to do our best. preparing a lesson plan is very useful for our future profession. it contributes a lot to our teaching skills requiring creativity and a well-prepared work from us. this is a large part of our profession, so we cannot say that we didn't gain anything from this work because by doing so, we learn how to time a lesson, how to integrate few skills in teaching which we are suppossed to do.

  18. In the process of preparation, of course we had some difficulties. First, I think many people had this difficulty, It was time consuming and hard to find effective activities, which are the most important part of the lesson plan. We had to find activities that are easy to connect each other and that are realted to our aims.We had to find activities that will satisfy the features of students, given in the scenario. We had many things to regard in choosing. So we had to look over many activites from ELT books, or web and this process was the hardest part. The second thing is to predict the duration of each activity. It really requires a good prediction, by regarding many things together , to predict how long an activity lasts. And this durations are important because lesson time is certain,35', so we have to fill the time, not less not more.. Since it requires some experince, it was hard to specify times for each activity.Lastly, I can say that to create smooth transitions was compelling. But I think we are used to it and we did it well due to previous lesson plans.
In fact we felt limitations about the features of students given in the scenario. They were hyperactive and we had to find activities which involve movements or so. So, we felt limited regarding the students in choosing activity process.

About some changes to do, I think it should be thought only after the plan is really applied in a classromm. But, nevertheless I belive it is benefical, effective for all students and teachers.
All in all, as a prospective teacher, preparing a lesson plan is one of the most benefical task for us.Because, we we will be teachers and we have to know what we are going to apply and how we are going to such things in our real classrooms and for our real students. So it was a good rehearsal for us, prospective teachers. While preparing, we sometimes said to each other that you know one day will come and we will be really a doing not sample but a real lesson plan for our teachers. I felt like a teacher that I am going to be. And it is nice to feel like that.
    Thank you,

  19. This was our first detailed lesson plan so it was a bit difficult to prepare it. The most difficult part was choosing a topic which was appropriate to our scenario. After we decided to our topic, we prepared our activities for lesson. These activities required creativity and too much time to make up the cases about pet problems. It was also difficult to write objectives. Despite all these difficulties, it was also enjoyable to produce something and work as a group. We shared our ideas and discussed about a lot of things. As future teachers; we have learned how to prepare a detailed lesson plan, which we will need in our whole teaching life. It was a good experience for us.

  20. I think the most difficult thing we encountered while we were preparing our lesson plan was deciding the subject and methods. First of all we chose one of the scenarios then we had to decide on a topic to teach according to our scenario we determined to prepare a reading lesson which has speaking and vocabulary in it. After this part the choice of activities come and it is also hard to decide because you should think about the student characteristics, their purpose, age and level. A part from deciding on the subject end the appropriate activities writing objectives and aims were also difficult for me. I was confused about which one is the objective and which one is the aim. However, all in all preparing this lesson plan helped us improve in lots of areas. For example now I feel more knowledgeable and confident about writing lesson plans and I can say that it will be easier for me to differentiate between aims and objectives. I’m also sure that we’ve learned how to integrate the different skills into one lesson.

  21. Before preparing our lesson plan, we had difficulty in deciding which scenario we would choose. It was the first limitation for us. For example we couldn’t choose the students who are preparing the University Entrance Exam, because the activities we do will be limited like grammar and reading. Then we decided to teach the students who are at the beginning level. We thought that it could be enjoyable. Then we started to think about our topic. As it doesn’t require tense knowledge much, we decided that it can be “imperatives”. However, there were two scenarios about beginner learners; so we selected the ones who are 6-8 years old. We see that they are hyperactive, and their attention is easily distracted, so we thought that activities should be short and not boring. We have difficulty in choosing the activities; we couldn’t choose the hard exercises and listening file, because they were in beginning level. Then we wanted to do listening activity, but we couldn’t find a suitable song about the imperatives we will teach. Then we decided to sing our song =) I think it was an enjoyable process, we were satisfied our song. Also we had a little bit difficult times while writing the goals and objectives. However I like the rationale part especially. All in all, while preparing this plan, we have learned many things about such a detailed lesson plan. It was a nice group work and beneficial experience.

  22. Before deciding which level we would choose, we think a lot. Firstly, I wanted to teach to intermediate learners, because I thought we could find much more activities, and thought it would be much easier to teach them something, because their English is already improved. Then we changed our mind and decided to choose beginner level. It would be more enjoyable and we thought we could enjoy them while teaching something. However, we had difficulties when we were searching some activities for them. Because of the fact that they are beginner level, most of the activities we found wouldn’t be appropriate for their level. We eliminated complex activities and tried to find easier ones. We tried to integrate listening activity to our lesson plan. Nevertheless, it took a lot of time to search suitable listening activity, we tried to find a song for students, but we couldn’t. Thus, we sang the song with the vocabulary items we would teach to students. Besides, we couldn’t apply writing session because of the fact that this activity would be difficult for their level. Despite all this difficulties, we enjoyed while preparing the lesson plan. After we finished, we have ideas how to prepare an integrated lesson plan and how to use time efficiently. We learn how to organize the topic that we would teach with the help of the lesson plan. It is helpful for all of us.

  23. For the first step we had to decide on what we teach for our lesson plan and I think this decision was the most difficult one. Because firstly we take into consideration our leraners' level. The things which we teach must be suitable for them. Moreover this time our lesson plan would be a integrated lesson plan. Therefore while we were preapring our plan we had to think our transitions between our activities or steps. Otherwise it could be seemed as seperated activiteis and our students' attention could be distracted. However after this important decisions were taken, it became an enjoyable process for us. At the and we have learned the most important thing for us as prospective teachers to integrate language skills in an efficient way with good and smooth transitions. Preparing an integrated lesson plan was helpful for us.

  24. The first difficulty we had while preparing the lesson plan was choosing a topic that is both appropriate and attractive for young learners. As they are hyperactive students, we had to find a fun topic that could involve the students in the lesson and keep them focused during the whole lesson.
After choosing the topic, the second difficulty we had was presenting the topic in a way that wouldn't be difficult for young learners to understand. That is, we had to simplify our language and adapt the lesson to their level.
Later, as young learners get distracted easily, we had to find materials that would make them participate in the lesson. So we decided to use toys, pictures, a song and cut&paste images.
While preparing activities, we also had difficulty as we wanted a lesson that is integrated and appealing to different intelligences.
Apart from the difficulties, we had a fun preparation process. It was enjoying to prepare a lesson for young learners. We have improved in adapting the lesson to different levels, finding appropriate materials and integrating the lesson to keep all the students involved during the whole lesson.
All in all, we experienced a real lesson preparation as prospective foreign language teachers, which will certainly help us in the future.

  25. While preparing this lesson plan we encountered some problems. Among these problems the first is the differentation between objectives and aims. However by disscussing with group members we solved it out. The discussion contributed to me alot. Other than these we found it difficult to find a suitable method and activity for the target student group. This is because the scenario restricted us rather than helping. The student profile was very limited in scenario samples. The specific problems with the scenario were age and aim of learning the language.
All in all as a prospective teacher of English language I feel myself partly ready for very kind of learner group. I feel pleased with my group member and our work.

  26. We had some difficulties while preparing the lesson plan. At first we discussed and tried to decide our activities becuse they should be suitable for the level of the students. Secondly we had difficulty in discriminating between objectives and goals, additionally integrating different skills was also difficult. As we did not experience a real class, timing was also difficult. But no matter how hard it is, preparing lesson plans is useful for us because we should learn how to prepare it and I realize that we become more successful on it day by day.

  27. At the beginning, we must decide on a suitable scenerio, level of students and how many students there are in the classroom, first we have difficulty in finding these things appropriately. I think that the most difficult part in preparing a lesson plan is choosing appropriate activities related to topic. We thought a lot of activities but we found it difficult to apply some of them to our objectives or topic. We must be selective while preparing activities.
We tried to pick up different methods while doing our lesson plan, so we must know most of the methods for applying it to our plan. I think we can find different and enjoyable activities for our students.
Of course sometimes we have difficulties while preparing our lesson plan, but I think it is very useful, educational and enjoyable activity for us. When applying our knowledge, we can learn more things about making lesson plan which is necessary for our future profession.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Of course it has some harder aspects. The most diffcult part for me is writing objectives. It is not because we don't how to do, it's a bit more complicated and needs more attention to fully control and point the main objectives.
Another hard point is to stay loyal to the learners level of capability and finding suitable materials for them. We can only guess their current level in theory, this makes it harder to decide what to do.

    ReplyDelete
  29. We think a lot on which topic to choose as we first search activities appropriate for learner profile and then decided on the topic. We spend a lot of time on topic, but it was disappointing to hear that we picked almost the same topic with other groups. However, we try to do our best for our topic. Writing objectives also took some time as it requires more attention. Writing rationale and anticipated problems and solutions was so usefu for us as it gives us a chance to imagine ourselves as real teachers full of theorical and practical knowledge. AlI in all, I like almost all activities and everything we did in the lesson plan.

  30. By preparing our first "official" lesson plan in this course, we also got acquinted with some major problems about preparing it. First of all, picking up a scenario was one of them. Because of the fact that scenarios have different age and social background students, we chose the one which we know best, young learners. After deciding scenario, the hardest part is writing objectives. We learnt how to do it theoretically. However, it different to write it on the paper I mean in practice.
Apart from all thses technical part, finding appropriate activities for the students was not so bad. However, we recognized that finding activities for young learners is easier than finding activities for 35-40 year-old immigrants.
Consequently, we know how to prepare a lesson plan and writing specific objectives thanks to tjhis lesson plan. In my opinion, these problems are arbitrary and we will get over them as the time goes by.

  31. this lesson plan preparation was our first detailed and meaningful lesson plan. there were some challenging problems during the preparation process. first of all, choosing a scenerio and making it up into activities was the most difficult task. since activities provides students to learn more efficiently and easily, picking the best activity must be something to be taken into consideration. the other difficult thing for our lesson plan was to write rationale. even if we know what we are doing, it is hard to put it on paper. ıt is also hard to pick the most useful method and be loyal to it. ınspite of these difficulties it comes the most enjoyable part which is to finish the lesson plan. because thinking that we will do this for our students is really exciting.

  32. I can say that this was our first lesson plan. We have introduced to some new concepts with this lesson plan. We had diffuculty in differeanting between goals and objectives. The other diffuculty was with the rationale part as we write for the first time. The timing part was also a little bit problematic. The timing in the plan never becomes the same as the timing in clasrooom. We have to think yhis while preparing a lessson plan. However it was useful for us to do this lesson plan. It contributed to us in my opinion.
