LESSON PLAN EVALUATION

You also need to examine TWO of the lesson plans submitted by other groups and evaluate it from the following aspects:
a) the appropriacy of the lesson plan format (for the teacher and for the observer)

b) the relevance of the objectives for the teacher/learner activities (Are the objectives stated in the lesson plan well-formed ? /Do the objectives in the lesson plan cover all the activities?)

b) clarity concerning the descriptions of teacher and student activities (can a teacher or an observer follow the teacher and student activities by looking at the plan?)

c) Variety (does the lesson plan include a variety of activities with different interaction patterns, and in different teaching modes (i.e., the pair/group work, individual activities)

d) smooth transition between activities (whether there is a link between the activities)

e) timings ( Are they clear? Do you ‘believe’ them? Do you think they are realistic? )

f) who does what? (Do you approve of the patterns of interaction?)

g) What do you think of the effectiveness of the closure part (the follow-up task and the assessment of learning)?
h) Is it a good plan? (i.e., what would you a) leave out? b) add to? c) bring in? or d) change completely?
i) Do you find their rationale realistic/ In what ways?
j) Is the learners' previous knowledge specified clearly?
k) Are the unexpected problems and their solutions adequately specified? In what ways?

  1. I want to make commentary on the Belgin, Eda , and Zehra's lesson plan:
a)I think the general format is appropriate for both the teacher and the observer as it is prepared in a regular way and suitable for a class at a beginner level.
b)I think this lesson plan's objectives covers the activities as the aim of the activities is to teach colors and the fruits in a foreign language.Especially the activity that is made by the pictures and the stickers is the most enjoyable and instructive one according to me.
c)As the activities are explained step by step and clearly in the plan, to follow the teaching process is not difficult for both the teacher and the observer.
d)The lesson plan includes useful and variety activities which are made both in groups and individually. For example: At the activity which is made by stickers the students work individually and at the last activity they work in groups of five member.
e)According to me the activities are related with each other. the teacher begins to the activity with fruits after teaching the colors.
f)I think the warm up and the lead in period cant't last for such a long time. They may both can last for 4 minutes. The other timings are suitable according to me.
g)The missions of the teacher and the students are stated appropriately.
h)The closure part is absent in this plan. The teacher should have given some homeworks ore researches about the topic or sth else.
i)It is generally good and well prepared lesson plan. But, I may add an appropriate closure part and rearrange the timing.
j)Their rationale is realistic as theyir activities are prepared to a beginner level.
class. The activities are/should be enjoyable to attract the class but it may be difficult for a crowded class environment.
k)The previous knowledge of the students wasn't stated clearly.
l)Some solutions to the difficulty of the student's remembering the previous knowledge and the solution to that problem is stated. But, the unexpected problems like electricity or computer for using powerpoint is not stated.

  3. My second commentary is on the lesson plan of Tuğba, Duygu, and Ayşenur's.
a)Firstly, the general format is suitable for the teacher and the observer as this plan is also prepared in a well organized way.
b)The objective of the lesson plan is well formed as the aim of the course is to teach some vocabulary to the students within a listening activity.
c)As the activities are explained step by step and clearly in the plan, to follow the teaching process is not difficult for both the teacher and the observer.
d)There is clear links between the activities. For example; after the first listening the the teacher writes the vocabularies and after they hear the pronunciation they try to repeat the word after the teacher.
e)Timing is arranged attentionally, so it is generally appropriate except for the warm up part. I think it shouldn't be longer than 2 minutes.
f)The instructions are stated clearly what the teacher and the students do during the course is explained appropriately.
g)The closure part is prepared in a creative way.
h)It is generally good and well prepared lesson plan. The activities, timing, and the materials are prepared and organized in a suitable way.
i)Their rationale is realistic according tome as they stated step by step which activity is for what aim.
j)They listed the previous knowledge of the students clearly in the plan.
k)They stated unexpected problems clearly and they find their solutions to these problems in a creative way. For example; the teacher should bring her/his own computer to the class if he/she will use a listening activity on condition to a breaking off problem of the computer.

  4. Secondly I will examine the lesson plan prepared by Duygu YAZICI and her group members.
    A)LESSON PLAN FORMAT:
The lesson plan format is a clear one. They state everything in bullets in the lesson plan and this helps both to the teacher and the observers.
    B)THE RELEVANCE OF THE OBJECTIVES:
The objectives and the activities are related to each other a lot. They try to teach new vocabulary items to the students and want the use in the context. they organize the activities with this aim.
    C)VARIETY:
The lesson plan involves a variety of activities and skills. At the end of the lesson the skills like speaking and listening will be improved. So as to make learning better some repetitions are done in the duration of the lesson. In order to clarify the comprehension a small quiz is done. So as to lower affective filter groups of students are formed. The students' imagination is enpowered by brainstorming.
    D)SMOOTH TRANSITION:
All the activities are related to each other. There is no disconnection between the activities. The students learn a new vocabulary item in one activity and in the next activity they have a chance to use the new learned vocabulary item.
    E)TIMINGS:
The times allocated to the activities are quite strict. As this lesson plan is a speaking-focused one, the time allocated for speaking is more than the others. All the activities will be fitted into the lesson time. As the topic is an enjoyable one the contingency won't be necessary.
    F)PATTERNS OF INTERACTION:
The interaction is not only between students but also between the student and the teacher. Thanks to this there won't be any unexpected things among the stduents. The teacher will be controlling the classroom throughout the lesson.
    G)EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CLOSURE PART:
At the end of the lesson the teacher asks the students' idea about the lesson. So that for the next lesson the tacher will be aware of the studenets' expectations from the lesson.
    H)ADDITION/CHANGINGS
    I wouldn't make any changings.,
    I)RATIONALE:
The rationale part is quite logical. The aim behind all the activities are stated in the rational part.
    J)PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:
The previous knowledge of the learners are clearly stated. The lesson plan is suitable for the students' level according to their previous knowledge.
    K)UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS:
The anticipaetd problems are both technical and man made problems. The suggested solutions to the problems seems to work.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I will examine firstly the lesson plan prepared by Gamze ŞAHİN and Kübra YARDIM.
    A)LESSON PLAN FORMAT:
The lesson plan format is quite simple and clear. For the teacher and the observer everything is quite well organized. This helps the teacher before and while teaching a lot. All in all the lesson plan, in terms of format, is a succesfull one.
    B)THE RELEVANCE OF THE OBJECTIVES:
Each activity has an objective in the lesson plan. According to lesson plan nothing is done in vain. In the lesson plan they stated everthing clearly. What is done why is quite obvious.
    C)VARIETY:
The lesson is prepared for every kind of learner. The activities are quite various. For example for tactile learners teacher will bring the toys. For visual students the teacher will show a power point presentation. For audial students there will be a listening activity. So as to lower students' affective filter the teacher will form groups throught out the lesson. In order to create speaking environment groups will consist of four students.
    D)SMOOTH TRANSITION:
Thew activities are all related to each other. the only difference beetween the activities is that they appeal different types of learners and different activities are to trigger different skills.
    E)TIMINGS:
The times given are approximately realkistic. There might be some unexpected things but all the ectivities are organized in such a way that all of the will be done in nearly 30 minutes.
    F)PATTERNS OF INTERACTION:
In the lesson plan who will do what is quite clear. The tasks are distrubetd quite logically. At some parts of the lesson the teacher does the task with the students together. So that the learners won't be bored of what they do.
    G)EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CLOSURE PART:
In closure part, everything learned till the end of the lesson is repeated in a way. Thanks to this repeating the learning will be more permamnent.
    H)ADDITION/CHANGINGS
    I wouldn't change any part.
    I)RATIONALE:
The rationale part is prepared quite realisticly. While preapring the lesson plan thay are not so strict, they don't ignore students' age. Again the topic is quite suitabel for their age.
    J)PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:
They stated student's previous knowledge in bullets. Everthing is clear but they should be more detailed.
    K)UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS:
They specify the anticipated problems adequately. The problems are quite realistic because they don't ignore the students' age while preparing the lesson plan. The solutuions to the anticipated problems are quite realistic and useful.

  6. Firstly; I will comment on F.Aslıgül Tüzen, Yasemin Türkarslan and Derya Yılmaz’s lesson plan. I think their lesson plan is appropriate for the teacher and the objectives are relevant. The activities that both the students and the teacher will do are covered in the objectives clearly. The activities are told clearly and someone can realize them by looking at the lesson plan. There are different kinds of activities especially role play activity which is aimed to help students improve their interpersonal interaction is a good choice and the topic of the lesson is also interesting and appropriate to the students’ needs. The activities are linked to each other and they are all about the main topic of culture shock. The timings are appropriate I think because we also had a hard time to decide on how much time we should spare to one activity. For the closure part, in fact the teacher goes on that role card activity and in the contingency part the teacher still adds something over that activity. In the end that activity is finished and there is no special thing to finish lesson. They may think of the length of the activity and so they may not need a closure activity. All in all, I think it is good lesson plan.

Secondly; I would like to talk about the lesson plan of Belgin Şahin, Eda Türkcan and Zehra Savran. I think their lesson plan is appropriate for the teacher and it can be applied easily. The objectives are relevant for the teacher and learner activities. The objectives cover all the activities and well-prepared. The activities are told in detail and so an observer can follow the lesson to do all the activities by looking at the lesson plan. The lesson plan consists of many different activities and games. The topic is given in an enjoyable environment so that the students won’t get bored. The activities are related each other. They first teach colors and then they teach fruits and in the end the students are able to tell the fruits with their colors in an appropriate grammatical structure. Also, via activities a lot of intelligences are addressed such as bodily kinesthetic intelligence, audio-visual intelligence and interpersonal intelligence. We also had that timing difficulty while preparing our lesson plan and I think their timings are realistic. In the plan the things that the teacher and the students are going to do are told clearly. The closure part activity is an effective way to make students repeat the words out of the class. Their rationale is realistic and they even gave a rationale for every activity that they are going to do. The students’ previous knowledge is mentioned clearly and that previous knowledge is necessary for students to learn the things that will be taught in that lesson. The anticipated problems are told in a clear way and the solutions are simple to those problems. The main solutions are the teacher and his /her teaching strategies that will prevent those problems occur. All in all, it is a good lesson plan that they prepared.

  7. I want to comment on Hatice YURTMAN's lesson plans. It is overall well prepared one.
a)Lesson plan format:It is appropriate for the students level and knowledge. The content of the lesson plan is suitable for the intermediate students and the teacher.
b)The objectives are well formed and relevant to the activities. The students are expected to learn preferences and tastes. The activities' aims are related to his topic. the objectives covers the lesson plan but it can be developed a little bit.
c)A teacher or a student can easily follow the activities. They are clear and clafied.Because they explained step by step so as to be comprehensible.
d)In terms of activities this lesson plan again plain and adequate. There are listeining activity as an individual one, for interaction group activity, construsting new sentences to reinforce newly acquired structures by individually.
e)yes there is link between activities. They are not indifferent to each other.we can see the transition. For example;after speaking avtivity they form groups and reflect what they have learned.
f)As for timing, 45 minutes is an appropriate time for learning. But we shouldnt compress all the activities. In this lesson plan the timing is realistic. The activities can be applied easily during this time.
g)the patterns of interaction was clear;I approved them
g)closure part:This part also affective in terms of making students to speak and use the new structures they have just leraned. There is interaction between both teacher and students at the same time. So it is fine in my opinion.
h)ıt is a normal and clear plan to follow.ı could add one more new vocabulary item and may be shorten the time spent by forming new sentences.but now in fact it is okey.
ı)the rationale part is realistic but it is not so clear. There is not a deep explanation on rationales.I expect to see more detailed rationale.
j)I couldnt see the previous knowledge stimulated clearly.there is no sign to mention past teached topics.
k)Unexpected problems and solutıons are givin but there should be more specified problems and solutions. For example;students get confused with the structures because they are a bit high in number.

  8. The first lesson plan I'd like to evaluate is the one prepared by Belgin S, Zehra S, and Eda Turkcan.
    a) The lesson plan format is both clear and appropriate. They managed to explain each part of the lesson step by step which would definitely be easy for the teacher to follow during the lesson. It was also easy for me to differentiate each part from another without confusion.
    b) I think the objectives of the lesson are relevant and well-formed. However, they could be more detailed in terms of referring to activities because only two of the four objectives are related to activities in general, and to the new items taught. The other two objectives include the pre-requisite knowledge, which should be omitted from this lesson plan.
    c) The instructions are explained very clearly for the students, and the activities are described well enough for anyone to follow with ease. Each step is well-organized and easy to track.
    d) This lesson plan includes a variety of activities appealing to different learner profiles, such as visual, auditory and kinesthetic. However, the teacher is too much involved in these activities, in my opinion. Except for sticking activities and repeating the new vocabulary items verbally, the students don't produce much. The teacher in general is involved in activities that could be done by only students (such as writing things on the board.)
Apart from the things I mentioned above, the activities are various and integrated. As the students are young learners, including physical movement is a nice idea not to bore them.
    d) All the activities are related to both lesson topic and each other. Although they teach two different topics, they achieved to integrate them and relate each part of the lesson to another.
    e) I think, teaching two different topics no matter how related they are would take much more time. As the students are young learners and they are beginners in learning English, they may find it difficult to grasp all the items in 35 minutes.
    f) As I mentioned before, teacher focus could be lessened in this lesson plan. It is nice to have the teacher as a controlling power, but more 'students on task' activities would be better without teacher involvement.
    g) I think giving students homework to practice out of the class is very nice to ensure that students will repeat the new items. In this way, they've made sure that the new items will be passed onto the long-term memory.
    h) As far as I can tell, this is a nice and well-organized plan. The only thing I would change is the timing.
    i) The rationale part is very clear, detailed and well-organized. They have stated their rationale realisticly for each activity and material.
    j) The pre-requisite knowledge of the students is specified clearly. Moreover, it is successfully integrated with the new items during the whole lesson.
    k) The anticipated problems and solutions are realistic and adequate. The teacher actively takes parts in solving the problems and tries to prevent any confusion and chaos by taking possible problems into consideration.

  9. Secondly, I want to comment on Seda YİĞİT2s lesson plan. I must say that this one is simlpy applied to the 1st classes as this is very nice one.
a)Lesson Plan Format:the format of this plan is very suitable for the students age and level.ıt is also apppropriate for the teacher's condition. But the format can iclude more energic acticities so that this students could be more moving and reflect their energy to thee lesson during the learninig process.
b)objectives:covers the all lesson plan. moreover they remind us the objectives before all the titles they would mention. That is creative annd nice to read the objectives again partly.
    C) The teacher's description and explanations are clear and modest. Because the students are young learners. The teacher must be more explicit. They managed it in my opinion.
d)As they are hyperactive students, they shouldnt be alone can do individual activities for a long time. Because they lost their attention easily. They should work in groups.ın the activies, I could see indivudial and group works and interaction with each others in the dialogues.
e)Absolutely, the activies are bound to each other and among them, there is smooth transition. This prevent students to be got confused.
f)I think timing is not enough to these students. Because from time to time teacher will spend time to control and attrack their attention.45 minutes is more suitable I think.
g)Clousure part is effective. Because it integrates the past learned information with the newly aquired ones.So they will remind the previous lesson and combine it with this lesson.
h)Yes it is a good plan. Because it is not boring and monotonous.but as I sad there colud be more energetic actvities to control these difficult students.
ı)yes I find the rationale realistic. As the colors is one of the very beginning topic to teach such students. The colors are form our life and can be seen in every part of the life.So these and other complementary rationales are successful.but they can be developed a little bit.
J)Yes in two part the previous knowledge is reminded clearly.
k)They could see the unexpected problems and solutions according to the needs of the students. I like their way of thinking this problems.but there can be some problems related to the topic. This could be more specified.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The second lesson plan I'd like to evaluate is the one prepared by Asli T, Yasemin T, and Derya Y.
    a) The lesson plan format is nice and explicit. Each part of the lesson is clarified in different steps. It is appropriate for both teachers and observers to follow.
    b) I think the lesson topic and the lesson objectives are very well-matched both to students' level and profile. The objectives are well-formed and stated clearly for each activity.
b2) The instructions given by the teacher are stated explicitly and the content of the activities is cleared up more with the explanation attached to the end of the lesson plan. Delivering each part step by step facilitates following them for both teacher and observers.
    c) There are a number of acitivities to be done individually and as a group. However, the focus is mostly on communication. The lesson could be prepared appealing to different learner intelligences, and could be integrated. Nevertheless, when the learner profile is taken into consideration, this lesson plan is well-formed and suitable.
    d) All the activities are related to each other. It is a smoothly integrated lesson plan in terms of activities. There is nothing confusing about the lesson plan.
    e) I'm a bit confused with the timing because at the beginning of the lesson plan, they stated the timing as 35 minutes. Nonetheless, the particular timing for each activity equals to more minutes than stated. The lesson plan and the activities may last longer than estimated, but learner profile is suitable for such an extension.
    f) The distribution of the roles in the lesson is appropriate. There is both student-teacher interaction and students on task activities, which is the ideal lesson plan.
    g) After the post-reading (vocabulary teaching) part, they prepared a role-play activity for the students. I think this is a nice exercise for students to have a real life-like experience using the new items learned.
    h) I think this is a good plan and I wouldn't change any part of it.
    i) The rationale for lesson topic and each activity is realistic. They are stated evidently.
    j) Yes, the previous knowledge of the students is declared in the lesson plan. The new items are appropriate regarding the past knowledge.
    k) I think the anticipated problems are adequate and they are successful in presenting the solutions in the lesson plan. The only problem is that the last solution is not explicit enough; they didn't give information about how different they will present the questions.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The first lesson plan I want to examine is that of Seda Yiğit, Beyza Tezcan, Özlem Yıldız. They are teaching 20 students at the of 6-8 for 30 minutes.
    a) The content is chosen well in terms of the features of te students.
    b) The objectives are clear in that the verbs are certain like “integrate” “construct”. The required actions can be understood and evaluated. And the objectives cover the activities in that you can understand which objective is related to which activity immediately.
    b) In general, the tasks of both teacher and students are described well enough to follow. But there are some points which are weak in clarity. In the warm up-lead in, it says “Teacher greets the students enthusiastically”. To my opinion, I question “enthusiastically”, how? Some greeting varieties could be added to support that.
    c) There are activities based on interaction, action, movement, listening, individual speaking by constructing little sentences. I think all those provide a variety in activities.
    d) As the formation of lesson plan, they added titles like “convey meaning”, “verification” or so. But these parts are separated from each other. So the lesson plan is like a list of activities to apply. In short, let a smooth transition, there is not really a kind of specified transition.
    e) I don’t really think that all the timings of all lesson plans are realistic. Neither is that of this lesson plan. In the verification part, teacher distributes handouts and students fill them in. And this is expected to take 10 minutes. I don’t agree this duration, as I don’t agree any duration in lesson plans.
    f) The actions related to the patterns of interaction are clearly described by specifying the tasks of both teachers and students.
    g) In closure part, students are expected to draw what their parent wear by writing colors as assignment. As a thought, it s creative and can be effective for students in repeating the topic of the day. But it could be better if they were expected also to construct sentences.
    h) It is a good plan in that the tasks are clear, activities are clear but it is not a good plan in that the activities are listed and no transition is provided. So it is needed to add effective transitions between activities, which will strengthen the effectiveness of each activity and the lesson plan. Also I think because of a confusion lesson topic is presented as Weather in the beginning, but then we are told activities about colors. The necessary attention should be given to prevent these kinds of confusions. Regarding the colors as the topic, giving the information of which colors are to be taught should be added.
    i) The rationale is realistic in terms of the aims , objectives and the roles of teacher and students.
    J) There is enough information about the previous knowledge of students and the previous knowledge and the new topic are really connected to each other.
    k) Regarding each task, the anticipated problems are specified and the solutions are effective in determining the probable confusion points to deal with. The solutions involve beneficial information for the teacher to know how to deal with these anticipated problems.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The other lesson plan I want to evaluate is that of Kübra Yardım and Kübra Gamze Şahin. They are teaching to 16 students at the age of 6-8 for 35 minutes.

a)From the topic to the materials used and the skills required, the lesson plan is appropriate for students.
b)I think some objectives are not rational and well formed, for example it says Identify the farm animals when they hear their sounds” and “differentiate farm animals from the other ones”. They are not rational regarding an English lesson. Apart from these, as I read about the rationale, the objectives cover the activities.
b)the tasks of teacher and the students are clearly described in the tasks part. The action verbs of students and teachers are clear so it would be easy to follow the teachers and students.
    c) There are different kinds of activities which involve different skills. Also activities involve interaction and group work. The listening activity, the main activity, is integrated with other articles.
    d) As I mentioned above, there is a main listening activity and other little activities are successfully integrated into this activity and this is done by creating smooth transitions. There are many activities but it is like one or two activities.
e)for timings, I usually do not find them realistic. But here they seem to be at least some rational.
f)There is clear schema for the structure of tasks to do. Teacher’s role is certain with specific verbs, and as a reaction to teacher, students’ expected roles seem clear. So it is not hard or confusing to understand who does what.
g)there is not a specific part as closure. The lesson ends with an ordinary activity. Of course it would be better to specify an assignment.
    h) it is a clear plan, it is a easy to understand , I mean, a user friendly plan. But to my opinion, there was no need for putting a column with the title purpose. It may create crowd.
    i) The rationale are very specific for the topic, for the material, for the time for activities and they are realistic in that they are clearly referring to activities, and other things involved in the plan.
    j) It is not very clearly specified the previous knowledge. The only information is the topics only, but it is not given to what extent they know them.
k)I think the anticipated problems are too general but the solutions provide the observer or the teacher useful information about what to do in specific circumstances.

  13. The first lesson plan I'd like to commeent on is the one prepared by Seda, Özlem, and Beyza.
    a) The lesson plan format is fine and explicit. Each part of the lesson is clear however at first they stated that they will teach the "weather" but they focused on colours so in this aspect I am confused. However this is an appropriate plan for both teachers and observers to follow if we suppose it is based on "colors".
    b) I think the lesson topic and the lesson objectives are very well-matched both to students' level and profile. The objectives are well-formed and stated clearly for each activity.
b2) The instructions given by the teacher are stated well and the activities are very appropriate and enjoyable for that level of students. Delivering each part step by step facilitates following them for both teacher and observers.
    c) There are several acitivities to be done individually and as a group and they are well integrated both by reading, listening and visuals. When the learner profile is taken into consideration, this lesson plan is well-designed and proper.
    d) All the activities are related to each other but if the theme is "The Weather" the activities should have included weather notion integrated with colors and clothes.
    e) I'm a bit confused with the timing because at the beginning of the lesson plan, they stated the timing as 35 minutes. Nonetheless, the particular timing for each activity equals to more minutes than stated. However since the activities are enjoyable and grasping, I think the students can easily endure the timing
    f) The distribution of the roles in the lesson is appropriate. There is both student-teacher interaction and students on task activities, which is the ideal lesson plan.
    g) After all the activities the closure with homework is good in order to keep the students interested even out of the class
    h) I think this is a good plan and I wouldn't change any part of it except changing the theme which is weather contrary to the activities and lesson target is colours.
    i) The rationale for lesson topic and each activity is realistic. They are stated evidently.
    j) Yes, the previous knowledge of the students is declared in the lesson plan. The new items are appropriate regarding the past knowledge.
    k) I think the anticipated problems are adequate and they are successful in presenting the solutions in the lesson plan.

  14. The second lesson plan I'd like to evaluate is the one prepared by Sibel, Hatice and Emine.
    a) The lesson plan format is very nice and crystal-clear. Each part of the lesson is clarified in different steps. It is really easy for both teachers and observers to follow.
    b) I think the lesson topic and the lesson objectives are very well-matched both to students' level and profile. The objectives are well-formed and stated clearly for each activity. And activities are very diverse, which is very good and effective in teaching.
b2) The instructions given by the teacher are stated explicitly and the content of the activities is cleared up more with the explanation attached to the end of the each step. Delivering each part step by step facilitates easiness of following them for both teacher and observers.
    c) There are a number of acitivities to be done individually and as a group. And the activities' focus is diverse which provides a variety of input and integrates different skills into each other very successfully. The lesson was prepared appealing to different learner intelligences, and was well integrated.
    d) All the activities are related to each other. It is a smoothly integrated lesson plan in terms of activities. There is nothing confusing about the lesson plan.
    e) As with all other plans, the timing in this lesson plan also overlaps because 35 minutes isn't sufficient for any teacher who wants to expose his or her students to many tasks.
    f) The distribution of the roles in the lesson is appropriate. There is both student-teacher interaction and students on task activities, which is the ideal lesson plan.
    g) After the post-reading (vocabulary teaching) part, they prepared a pair-work activity for the students. I think this is a nice exercise for students to have a chance to perform and practice what they learned and experienced using the new items learned.
    h) I think this is a good plan and I wouldn't change any part of it.
    i) The rationale for lesson topic and each activity is realistic. They are stated evidently.
    j) Yes, the previous knowledge of the students is declared in the lesson plan. The new items are appropriate regarding the past knowledge.
    k) I think the anticipated problems are adequate and they are successful in presenting the solutions in the lesson plan.

  15. I want to comment on the lesson plan of Seda Beyza and Özlem

    a) The lesson plan format is approprite for the teacher and for the observer,it has been organized well.

b)The objectives stated in the lesson plan are well-formed. They cover all the activities.

    b) The descriptions of the activities are very clear.By looking at the plan one can easily follow the teacher and student activities.

    c) Yes, the lesson plan includes a variety of activities with different interaction patterns, and in different teaching modes. For example at first the students identify their favourite color from the handout, this is an individual activity and then they form pairs and ask each other their favorite colors as a group activity.

    d) There is a smooth transition between activities, they are related to each other.

e)I think timing is not so good. Because these students are hyperactive and 35 minutes is not enough. The students need more time to make them sit down and settle down.

    f) The patterns of interaction is good. The mission of the satudents and teacher is clear.

    g) The closure part is effective. By means of the assingment she gave, the students will be able to repeat what they learnt.

    h) It is a good lesson plan but I think giving the transcript of the song is not so effective because the sudents are too young to read script. They are more interested in the music and rhythm rather than script.
    i) Yes their rationale is realistic. As they stated as everything in the world has a color, the students can integrate color words into a lot of fields.
    j) As the learners are young it is normal that they have no previous knowledge.
k)the unexpected problems and their solutions are adequately specified. For example as the students are hyperactive keeping their attention is difficult and as a solution the teacher makes students play games based on their topic and gives a present to the winner.

  16. Firstly, I picked up the lesson plan prepared by Salih Taşdemir, Şeyma Toker, Olcay Türk and Canan Yurdakul.
    a) The lesson plan format is organized and clear. It is divided into parts and each part is explained step by step. Readers can easily reach what I want to look at.
    b) Their objectives cover all the activities. Because their activities are successfully interrelated with each other, their objectives are also in accordance with each other. However, I found some objectives stated in the lesson plan are unnecessary to mention about. For example, they wrote that” students will be able to infer the meaning of ‘like’ from teacher’s mimics and gestures.” I think this doesn’t sound like an objective of the lesson.
    c) Each activity is explained quite clearly. Anyone who reads the lesson plan can follow the instructions without difficulty.
    d) The lesson plan involves many enjoying activities to keep the students active throughout the lesson. Also, I liked these activities because they appeal to multiple intelligences.
    e) I found the lesson plan successful especially because of the fact that everything is related to each other and each activity is linked with the other one smoothly. They managed to do this by linking the end of an activity to the beginning of one another activity.
    f) I think their timing is logical because students are only expected to get familiar with fruits names and “I like…” structure with duration of 35 min. Also their sharing the time according to the steps teacher will follow during teaching is realistic.
    g) I approve the pattern of interaction of that lesson plan because they especially focus on students’ participation in the activities and keep the teacher to be director of the lesson; s/he directs the students towards activities clarify the instructions and inform the major points. S/he tries to keep the students enthusiastic throughout the lesson by continuously giving them tasks to deal with.
    h) Teacher hands out a puzzle about fruits as homework, which gives an opportunity for students to repeat the new items. In this way, students acquire the items and pass them to their long-term memory.
    i) I think this is a successful lesson plan. The group members seem to pay attention to every point we should be careful with while preparing a lesson plan.
    J) I found the rationale part very clear, organized and realistic. They give the rationale behind each activities and materials they are planning to use.
    k) The pre-requisite knowledge of the students is specified clearly and what they are teaching in that lesson plan is effectively interrelated with their pre-requisite knowledge. In this way, they make the students repeat their previous knowledge and by wanting them to use that knowledge they give them a chance to practice it.
    l) They guess the problems which may appear during the lesson and they give their logical and realistic solutions for each problem.

  17. The other lesson plan I want to talk about is the one prepared by Aslıgül Tüzen, Yasemin Türkarslan, Derya Yılmaz.
    a) The format of the lesson plan is appropriate because they’re successfully explaining each part step by step with clear divisions.
    b) I think the objectives are in accordance with the activities in the lesson plan. When we read the objectives stated in the lesson plan, we see clearly that there is an objective behind each activity.
    c) I found clear the descriptions of the teacher’s and students’ activities. That is, what the teacher and students will do in each part is explained step by step briefly and reader can easily follow these steps.
    d) There isn’t variety of activities, but the activities which are planned to use are interesting and enjoying.
    e) Activities are related with each other and it is passed smoothly from one activity to one another because the end of one activity is the beginning of another activity.
    f) I found timing successful. I think it is calculated well because the shared time for each part seems too realistic to apply in classroom.
    g) I think they could focus on students’ speaking more because the students are adults and their level is also appropriate for this. Moreover, their lesson focus is specified as speaking, so I think the students could be directed to speak more.
    h) Although I liked their closure part, I think it could be better by letting the students comment on the activity to make them understand the rationale behind this activity. Also, a writing assignment about this activity could be given to integrate the writing into the lesson.
İ) Generally, I found the plan as a good one. However, I would add some activities to give opportunities for my students to speak more and I could integrate the writing and listening somehow as their level and age are suitable for these.
    j) I found their rationality part is very realistic. They support everything they’re planning to do during the lesson with logical reasons.
    k) The pre-requisite knowledge of the students is stated in the lesson plan in a separate part which can be easily reached.
    l) They specify the anticipated problems which may appear throughout the lesson of 35 min. and they suggest some solutions for these problems. However, I found some solutions inadequate. For example they give a solution of presenting the questions in different ways to the problem of students’ reluctance towards the lesson. I think they can pass smoothly to one another activity which raises their wonder and willingness to participate in the lesson to overcome this problem.

  18. I'm commenting on Ebru Tombalak, Sevil Özkan, Fazilet Özge Maviş, Buket Tanyeri's lesson plan.
    a) Lesson plan format is appropriate, but it should be in table according to teacher's and students' role.
    b) The objectives cover almost all activities, but some of them that include "learn" need more work as it should be more clear.
    c) They didn't put lesson plan in table, but teacher and learner activities are quite clear and understandable in procedure part.
    d) There are smooth transitions between activities.
    e) Timing is quite realistic but not much detailed.
    f) The instructions are stated clearly although not indicated in different patterns.
    g) The closure part is enjoyable for students and rewarding is a good way of ending a lesson, but there is nothing to assess the students at the end of the lesson.
    h) I think tis lesson plan is successful in general, but objectives and rationale should be reviewed.
ı) Rationale part is not so good as it doesn't give rationale for activities, materials and so on. It just explains what the teacher will do.
    j) Learners' previous knowledge is specified.
    k) Problems are specified mostly on materials rather than learners.

Another lesson plan I comment on is F.Aslıgül TÜZEN, Yasemin TÜRKARSLAN, Derya YILMAZ's lesson plan.
    a) Lesson plan format is appropriate and clear.
    b) Wwhat the teacher and students will do in each part is explained step by step briefly and reader can easily follow these steps.
c)There are a lot of group and individual acitivities. But multiple intelligence should have been taken into account.
    d) Transitions are smooth and clear.
    e) Timing is normal and realistic, but some activities might take more time, so the lesson could last more, but in a way it is normal.
    f) Students are mostly in interaction with teacher or they are on task. As it is a speaking lesson interaction between each other should have been more.
    g) There is not a closure part or assessment specified in the lesson plan.
    h) It is a good lesson plan but activities could be decreased and Ss-Ss interaction could be increased.
    i) Rationale part is quite realistic but not indicated as separete for materials and activities.
    j) Students' previous knowledge is specified clearly.
    k) They write logical problems and solutions according to their learner profile.

  19. I'll comment on Aslı Tüzen and her friends lesson plan first

    a) The lesson plan format is fine. Steps are given clearly in the parts.
b)The objectives contains all the activities and they were prepared well.
    c) For a speaking session, although there is lots of activities it lacks interaction between students.
    d) The activities are related to each other and well-connected
e)Timing is a bit longer than the anticipatedd
    f) As I said before there could be more Ss-Ss interaction
    g) Role-playing is OK for closure part. It is enjoyable and funny
    h) No change necessary
    i) Rationale is good however, activities and material could be seperate.
    j) It is given and sufficent.
    k) I think the anticipated problems are suitable and confronted in the plan.

For the second one, Kübra Gamze Şahin and her friends lesson plan.

    a) The format is OK and well chosen.
b)The objectives includes the activities and they works on each of them in detail.
    c) There are different kinds of activities. The activities contains interaction and group work.
    d) The activities are related to each other and well-connected
e)There is nothing wrong with the timing. It seems reasonable.
    f) The issue that who is doing what is clear for me.
    g) A drawing activity is fine for the closure as it provide repetiton for the day's lesson and it also will provoke creativity
    h) No change necessary
    i) Rationale fits and matches with the objectives and activities.
    j) I think they weren't given in a clear way they could be more specific about the topics.
    k) I think the anticipated problems are too general as they cover some subjects as a whole.

    a) the appropriacy of the lesson plan format (for the teacher and for the observer)
Lesson plan is well prepared and understandable for the teacher and the observer. Division of the each part of the lesson is done very well as well so order is followed. The one who will be an observer can understand which part of the lesson should go first and which one should be followed. Appendices can also guide the follower which is very important in the case if the observer is not familiar with the general planning of the lessons.

    b) the relevance of the objectives for the teacher/learner activities (Are the objectives stated in the lesson plan well-formed ? /Do the objectives in the lesson plan cover all the activities?)
The relevance is also followed; however, the information doesn’t enough for the first observer, but it is clear enough for the teachers. Activities are very good for provided level but the reading passages are little bit complicated for the level.

    b) clarity concerning the descriptions of teacher and student activities (can a teacher or an observer follow the teacher and student activities by looking at the plan?)

Lesson plan can be followed very easily because it is very clear and an observer can distinguish responsibilities of the teacher and the learner. Activities given in the appendices can be fit with the lesson plan and followed with this plan.

    c) Variety (does the lesson plan include a variety of activities with different interaction patterns, and in different teaching modes (i.e., the pair/group work, individual activities)

There were many different activities including group works between peers and interaction of T -> Ss.

    d) smooth transition between activities (whether there is a link between the activities)

Transition is done very well, with one exception that the unknown vocabulary wasn’t given first as it supposed to be.

    e) timings ( Are they clear? Do you ‘believe’ them? Do you think they are realistic? )

Timing was done very well; however, contingency plan time should not be included in the lesson plan because contingency plan is done when the time is left after the normal lesson. Nevertheless, timing in general is very good and they realistic and fit with the age of the learners.

    f) who does what? (Do you approve of the patterns of interaction?)

Interaction division is done according to the level and age of the students and it is very well. The topic also is useful in this case because the age of the students is suitable for interaction.

    g) What do you think of the effectiveness of the closure part (the follow-up task and the assessment of learning)?
The closure part is not included in this lesson plan.

    h) Is it a good plan? (i.e., what would you a) leave out? b) add to? c) bring in? or d) change completely?
Generally this lesson plan is very good. The one thing that I think I would change is the while listening part where teacher write while all students listening which is not recommended because by walking while listening attention of the students can be destructed and they can miss important parts of the passage.
Also I would give unknown words first in the pre-listening part and then give the students chance to listen the passage.

    i) Do you find their rationale realistic/ In what ways?
It is very good written rational. They included the skills they can develop and intelligence which could be improved. For example, group works to develop interpersonal intelligence.

    j) Is the learners' previous knowledge specified clearly?
It is clarified very well; however, the grammatical structure “used to” very complicated for the pre-intermediate group of the students. But in general it is very well prepared.

    k) Are the unexpected problems and their solutions adequately specified? In what ways?
The problems and solution are specified, and they are adequate enough. Fro example, if time is left teacher can use contingency plan because it is taken into consideration.

    a) the appropriacy of the lesson plan format (for the teacher and for the observer)

Lesson plan is well prepared and understandable for the teacher and the observer. Division of the each part of the lesson is done very well as well so order is followed. The one who will be an observer can understand which part of the lesson should go first and which one should be followed. Even though Appendices are absent and given in another word document it is clear enough to understand.

    b) the relevance of the objectives for the teacher/learner activities (Are the objectives stated in the lesson plan well-formed ? /Do the objectives in the lesson plan cover all the activities?)

Relevance is followed very well. So the first reader can follow it easily. Objectives give very clear information about what will happen at the end of the lesson and relevance of the vocabulary with the level is very good.

    b) clarity concerning the descriptions of teacher and student activities (can a teacher or an observer follow the teacher and student activities by looking at the plan?)

The lesson plan was prepared very well so an observer will not have any difficulties in following the plan. The steps follow the order and there is very detailed information about the steps of the teacher so everybody would be able to follow the lesson plan.

    c) Variety (does the lesson plan include a variety of activities with different interaction patterns, and in different teaching modes (i.e., the pair/group work, individual activities)

The lesson includes many different activities and group works and they are very interesting and related to the age of the students.

    d) smooth transition between activities (whether there is a link between the activities)
Transition is followed very well and lesson plan is followed according to the steps which is very relevant to the topic.

    e) timings ( Are they clear? Do you ‘believe’ them? Do you think they are realistic? )

The timing is divided very well but I would give more time to the post-listening activity because the age of the students is very young.

    f) who does what? (Do you approve of the patterns of interaction?)

Responsibilities of teacher and students are shared appropriately and interaction of those are divided professionally as well.

    g) What do you think of the effectiveness of the closure part (the follow-up task and the assessment of learning)?
Closure part is absent in this lesson plan.

    h) Is it a good plan? (i.e., what would you a) leave out? b) add to? c) bring in? or d) change completely?
I think that this lesson plan prepared well and I would only add appendices to this plan so that observer of this plan can be easily guided by the materials as well. Also I would have time changes in the plan; just totally cutting the time from contingency plan and add it to the post-listening activity. Because contingency plan is needed if the extra time is left I would cut the time and divide it where it is necessary.

    i) Do you find their rationale realistic/ In what ways?
Rational is written very well and it contains information which would be very good example for the first reader. For example, PPT examples and materials which they are used and purposes which they are provided are very relevant and effective.

    j) Is the learners' previous knowledge specified clearly?
The prerequisite knowledge is specified clearly and very relevant to the level of the students.

    k) Are the unexpected problems and their solutions adequately specified? In what ways?
They are specified very well; for example, the problem of hesitation among students is very common so singing a song with students is very good way so decrease affective filter of students, and taking it into consideration is very well.

  22. The SECOND lesson plan I want to evaluate is the one prepared by Ebru, Özge, Sevil and Buket.

a)The lesson plan format is approprite for the teacher and for the observer.

    b) The objectives are well-formed. Objectives cover all the activities in the lesson plan.

    b) The descriptions of teacher and student activities are clear.By looking at the plan a teacher or an observer can follow the teacher and student activities.

c)Yes, the lesson plan includes a variety of activities such as group work and individual activities. As an individual activity, the students put the mixed up sentences in the correct order and as a group work the students the students make dialog with their partners.

    d) There is a link between the activities and the transition is smooth.

    e) The timing is good. As they stated, if the volunteer group will present their dialogues only, 45' is enough for this lesson. They are realistic.

    f) the patterns of interaction is approprite. It is clear who does what.

    g) The closure part is good. The name of their subject is 'leisure time activities' and they finish the day with leisure time activities.

    h)It is a good plan.

    i) Their rationale is realistic but I want to tell that they say the teacher will make them write short paragraphs but in the lesson plan I couldn't find such an activity.
    j) Yes, the learners' previous knowledge is specified clearly.

k)The unexpected problems and their solutions are adequately specified. For example they have hard copies of the power points if they face any technical problem.

  23. Firstly ı want to comment on the lesson plan of
Kübra Yardım and Kübra Gamze Şahin.

    LESSON PLAN FORMAT:
The lesson plan is seen clearly and it is not complicated. And also we can find what we are looking for easily.
    THE RELEVANCE OF THE OBJECTIVES:
the objectives is given in a useful way. When we see the activities it can be understood that objectives are logical in terms of matching the activities.
    SMOOTH TRANSITION:
In the activities we can see that each of them was prepared by considering of students different skills. They address to all students and it is useful in this aspect. Sticking to objectives, the activities are given in a logical sequence. For example after teaching the names of the animals they can relate them with the words by hearing the names.
    TIMINGS:
ı think the lesson with the activities may overrun the time, but it is up to the teacher and students.
    PATTERNS OF INTERACTION:
these students are between 6-8, so the teacher has to care with the students so much. Singing the song group by group and cutting and painting the animal pictures can distract the students’ attention, so the teacher and the students should be interacted with each other. In the lesson plan it is given succesively.
    EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CLOSURE PART:
the lesson is finished without no hesitation that whether any part is missing or not. Everything is appropriate for the lesson plan.
    ADDITION/CHANGINGS
ı could give some animals pictures but ask the students make them as homework. However, they say “Sticking the pictures on the wall provides permanent visual aid.” So ı can say that it is also a good idea to do this activity in the class.
    RATIONALE:
Everything is understood in a clear way in the rationale part. They give what they want to do for each activity clearly.
    UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS:
these problems are really realistic. Especially, it is hard to understand the lyrics of the song for these students between 6-8. The solution for this problem is to distribute the lyrics of the song to the students and ı hink it is a good solution.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Secondly ı want to comment on Belgin, Eda and Zehra’s lesson plan.
    LESSON PLAN FORMAT:
ıt is a good lesson plan for its visual aspect. ıt is appropriate for both the students and the teacher.
    THE RELEVANCE OF THE OBJECTIVES:
the objectives in the lesson plan are clearly explained. They also give the structures which they want to teach in the lesson.
    SMOOTH TRANSITION:
the transition between activities are not sharp. They are given in a logical way. Each step is understood clearly and transition to the other step is appropriate for the students.
    TIMINGS:
ı think they use time effectively. And if there is time remainig their contingency plan is really useful and for finishing the lesson it is enjoyable.
    PATTERNS OF INTERACTION:
for beginner students it is really important to adjust interaction between students and the teacher. In the lesson plan we can see this well-interaction and this makes the plan more appropriate.
    EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CLOSURE PART:
ın the closure part they give homework to the student. I think giving homework to the students, especially for the beginner learners, is crucial in terms of the students’ repeating what they have learnt in the lesson.
    ADDITION/CHANGINGS
ı would focus on the song part much more so the melody could make the students remember the pronunciation of the words more easily.
    RATIONALE:
everything is appropriate for the rationale part. We could conclude what the theacher want to do in this part.

    UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS:
They say “Students may have difficulty in working and playing in groups while learning a foreign language.” And for the solution the suggest that the teacher will monitor the students and the groups are made up of 4 people. It is a new language and for the beginners it is hard to adapt the activities and ı think it is a good solution.

  25. The first lesson plam I want to comment on is by Yasemin Türkaslan, Asligül Tüzen and Derya Yılmaz.
    a. I think the format of the lesson plan is quite appropriate for the teacher and the observer. The steps are very clearly stated, which will help a teacher a lot in the classroom.
    b. The objectives are clearly stated, which will prevent both the teacher and the students from getting lost. The objectives are in harmony with the activities in the plan.
B2. In the plan, the tasks are clearly stated and there is not any place for confusion about who will do what.
    c. In terms of variety, the lesson plan is effective because there both group and individual works
    d. The activities are all related to each other. The whole lesson is on the culture shock and the subjects maintains continuity among the activities.
    e. I think the time will be a little bit problematic for them because the activities seem to last more than 35 minutes.
    f. There are different kinds of interaction in the lesson; teacher-student, student-student which makes the lesson more colorful.

    g. finishing the lesson with a funny role play is a good idea because the students can integrate what they learned the during the lesson into the role play and repeat what they have learned.
    h. The lesson plan is a good one all in all. It is appropriate for student level and in harmony with student needs. It is generally realistic except the timing and can be applied in the classroom environment.
    i. The rationale is convincing in my opinion. It is I harmony eith the rest of the lesson plan.
    j. Yes. What they learned in the previous lesson is specifically stated in the lesson plan.
    k. Yes . For each problem they write the expected problem and try to find the most suitable solution.

  26. The second plan I want to evaluate is by Kübra, Kübra Gamze.
    a. The lesson plan is organized well. All the steps are clear. The plan can be a good map for a teacher.
    b. Every activity in the lesson plan has its own objectives and these objectives are clearly stated in the plan. The teacher does everything for a certain purpose not for the sake of doing.
    c. In the plan there are different kinds of activities. The teacher addresses different kinds of intelligences in the classroom.
    d. The activities are all related to one subject so the transition is not difficult to provide. There are different kinds of activites but they are all about animals.
    e. The time seems realistic in the plan but in the classroom environment the time may not be enough as the things may go different.
    f. The task are clearly stated in the lesson plan. It is quite clear who will do what.
    g. The plan is finished with a kind of repetition which is very effecrive way to finish a lesson.
    h. I can say that it is a well prepared lesson plan all in all. It can be applied to classroom environment easily.
    i. The rationale part is well prepared.
    j. Yes. What they are required to know is clearly stated in the plan.
    k. All the problems which may arise in the classroom are stated clearly and the possible solutions are written for each problem.

  27. Firstly, I choose Songül, Kübra and Rabia’s lesson plan to evaluate.

    a) I think the lesson plan’s format is very appropriate for the teacher, and the observer. Every step is very clear to follow. Nobody may get confused. The observer will have an idea what will be going on in the class. The plan is a teacher friendly plan, the teacher will know what s\he will do in the class and in which order.

    b) The objectives are very relevant to the things that will be covered in the class, but I think there should be some extension in the objective part, since as far as I saw there are some parts without objectives, not everything is covered.

    c) Every step in the lesson plan is very clear. Each and every activity is told in detail, so both a teacher and observer don’t have any problem when they look at it.
    d) In this lesson plan, our friends give different kinds of activities which will require groups or individual works.
    e) Every activity is a complementary to each other, so there is a smooth transition between the activities.
    f) Timings are very clear and realistic. They can be applied.

    g) I approve the pattern of interaction. Who does what is very clearly defined.

    h) I think it is OK. The teacher gives homework and makes a summary of the day, which will result in more permanent learning.
    I) I think it is a good plan. I wouldn’t change anything. I believe that it is applicable.
    i) Yes, they are realistic, because they are prepared intelligently. When I read them, I said that the activities and the purposes are very relevant to each other.
    j) No, it is not specified. They say that the students know the grammar rules etc., but I think as it is based on writing and speaking, this format can be acceptable.
    k) Yes, they are adequately explained. The problems are those that can be encountered in the class. Also the solutions are very realistic.

  28. Secondly, I choose Hila, Ceren and Sema’s lesson plan to evaluate.

    a) I think the lesson plan’s format is very appropriate for the teacher, and the observer. Evry step is written in detail and in an order.

    b) The objectives are very relevant to the things that will be covered in the class, and they cover all the things that will be done in the class.

    c) Every step in the lesson plan is very clear. Each and every activity is told in detail, so both a teacher and observer don’t have any problem when they look at it.
    d) In this lesson plan, our friends give different kinds of activities which will require groups or individual works, which is very good for their target students also, because they can get distracted easily. Different kinds of activities will make sure that they are engaged in the activities.
    e) Every activity is a complementary to each other, so there is a smooth transition between the activities.
    f) Timings are very clear and realistic. They can be applied.

    g) I approve the pattern of interaction. Who does what is very clearly defined.

    h) I think this part may be extended; there might be homework to make them study on the things that are learned during the day, which in the end increase the permanency.
    I) I think it is a good plan. I wouldn’t change anything. I believe that it is applicable.
    i) Yes, they are realistic; they explain why they do what they do in detail.
    J)yes, they are specified.
    k) Yes, they are adequately explained. The problems are those that can be encountered in the class. Also the solutions are very realistic.

  29. I would like to comment on the lesson plan prepared by Derya, Aslıgül and Yasemin.

    A) I like the lesson plan format. It's clear not only for teacher but also for the students. Teacher can follow the steps quite easily, but in some parts, the layout shifted and I am not sure which activity in which part. Everything is specified within the lesson plan Therefore; everything becomes clear for the instructor. The level of the students is upper and intermediate students, and the lesson plan is suitable for this level. Activities and their level of difficulty is well-decided.
    B) Objectives are stated clearly and they manage to cover all the activities, but some objectives can be more specific such as in 5th one. Otherwise, I like their objectives. It expresses the aim of the activities done in the class so well.
    C) I think, this lesson plan is very good in terms of the steps and the clarity of the instructions. Any teacher can follow the steps stated and do the activities. This is the same with students. Every step is so clear and they can also follow the instructions easily.
    D) I think so. It has a reading part, role playing part, group work and also individual work such as writing assignment. Students have a chance to do all these activities and it leads to a good and enjoyable lesson.
    E) Yes, there is a smooth transition between all the activities. Teacher warms students up before beginning a new activity or after the activity, s/he asks questions related to it.
    F) To me, timing is the most difficult one in the lesson plan and one can never be sure about the exact finish time of any activity. Therefore, the lesson plan contain approximate timing such as 15'/25', but it can be more specific. At least, a teacher can guess the duration more or less. Other than that, timing is well and suitable for the activities.
    G) In some parts, there is a student to student interaction in the plan, but the teacher asks some questions to the students and students discuss it among themselves. I would consider it as a mutual interaction. Besides, it is an appropriate lesson plan in terms of interaction.
    H) In the closure part, there is a vocab. step which teacher gives the definitions of the unknown vocab. item. It's good but there should be an assessment part to understand whether students learn or not, but it contains a fill in the blanks activity and it's good.
    I) It's a good plan because the subject of the lesson is very very related to the students and they want to participate in. However, I would add an assessment part such as quizzes.
    J) Yes, I find it realistic because they explain the activities and their reason clearly. They chose a topic “CULTURE SHOCK” and it's related to students because they all experience it. Other rationales are also right.
    K) Yes, the previous knowledge is well-stated in the lesson plan but it can be more specific.
    L) The problems related to students are given in this lesson plan, but there might be some problems related to technology. (Xerox machine can be broken.)

    L) Yes, the problems are stated but there may be some problems related to electricity and technology. The computer may break down. In this case, a teacher should have an extra plan. Other than that, solutions are quite successful.

2.The objectives are relevant to the lesson and cover all the activities in the lesson plan. The objectives start with activating background knowledge and end with reinforcing by the assessment. I think all these objectives are well formed and reachable.
3.The lesson plan is clearly stated by the teacher. The activities are explained in detail and can be followed both by the teacher and the observer.

8.I think, the closure part is effective and useful. For example, the puzzle homework is effective for the retention of fruits.
9.I think it is a good plan in terms of usefulness, effectiveness, and integration of activities. I wouldn’t leave anything and there is nothing to add in this 35-minute lesson plan.
10.The rationale is stated in detail for the topic, methods, activities and materials. The rationale for everything makes sense and seemed realistic to me. I couldn’t find any inappropriateness in that part.
11.The learners’ previous knowledge specified clearly.
12.Unexpected problems and their solutions adequately specified in the lesson plan. I found the solutions to the problems very useful.

  34. Secondly, I evaluated the lesson plan prepared by Aslıgül, Derya and Yasemin.
1.I think the lesson plan is appropriate for the teacher and the observer.
2.Objectives of lesson plan are relevant to the teaching/ learning activities and cover all the activities in the plan. Also, they all seemed reachable and realistic when I read the plan.
3.All the activities and explanations are stated in detail and order. It is easy to follow by the teacher and the observer.
    4. The lesson plan includes a variety of activities with different interaction patterns. The group work by role-play, interaction with the students by discussion and individual work by fill in the blanks activities cover different interaction patterns.
5.The skills are integrated successfully and there is a smooth transition between the activities. For example, vocabulary items to teach are chosen from the reading passage, which saves the teaching from being divided.
6.Timing is clearly stated. I found the time of role-play short. The whole reading and understanding the roles and performing them in 10 minute seems difficult to achieve. I think students need more time to do all these things.
7.The teacher and the student interaction seem successful and fair.
8.I think, closing the lesson with a role-play is good. Also, they have a nice contingency plan.
9.I think the lesson plan is good. The topic is related to their situation and level. All the activities are related to topic. The only thing that I would leave in the plan is the number of vocabulary items. Teaching six vocabulary items in a 35-minute lesson with the other reading, speaking and role-play part seems much to students. They can learn these vocabulary items, but they are not acquired with all the other activities. I would teach 2 vocabulary items at most.
10.The rationale is stated clearly and all of them make sense to me.
11.The learners’ previous knowledge specified clearly.
12.Unexpected problems and their solutions adequately specified in the lesson plan. I found the solutions to the problems realistic.

e)The teaching process is good I think. There is smooth transition between the activities, and they are related to each other.

f)The warm up and lead in part could be shorter, for example, two minutes for warm up and two minutes for lead in part. Other than these parts, timings are suitable and realistic I think. They organized the things in an appropriate duration of time.

h)It is effective I think. They will be able to repeat what they learn at home with the help of the sheets that the teacher distributes.

  37. ı want to comment on Seda Beyza and Özlem's lesson plan. I liked their lesson plan in terms os relevance to the teacher, students and the content of the lesson.
    relevance of the objectives:
ı think the objectives that they write for the lesson cover all the activities.the objectives are appropriate for students and their level and they are specified well I think.
    clarity of the activities:
I think the expressions that they used in the lesson plan are very clear, so the teacher and an observer can easily catch their main goal for the lesson. they are easy to understand and implement in the class environment.
    variety:
their lesson plan includes a variety of activities requiring different skills. firstly they are appealing to lots of intelligences during the activities they use such as musical, interpersonal and kinesthetic intelligence. it is appropriate for the students who are beginner level students. they are required to work both individually but by and as a gorup.
    transition:
they have a smooth transition between the activities and they always try to keep their attention to the lesson because the students are hyperactive. they achieve to make a strong link between the activities by making a connection between the previous activitiy and the new activity.
    timing:
ı think the duration thay they spare for each activity is well organized. they make lots of activities and the time that they have given for them are enough for the students at that age. it is good for keep the activities longer than the lecture for the beginners.
    patterns of interaction:
ı think the tasks of the teacher and the students are pointed out well. they use student-student student-teacher interaction. making dialogues for exmaple is a good way of providing interaction between them.
the effectiveness of the closure part:
they finish the lesson with repetititon assignment and a drawing task. it is a very effective way of passing the new information to the short term memory.
ı think it is good plan regarding that the students are beginners and their age is 6-8. the activities and the durations for the skills used within the lesson. the children at that age like playing games and it is good to address to their kinesthetic and musical intelligences.
the rationale they write are realistic I think. they use songs and concrete materials for their topic "colors". by doing so, they achieve to keep the attention of the students alive durind the lesson. so Ithikn they are realistic.
anticipated problems and solutions given to them are also logical because the problems are expected ones for the studens at that age and Englishis not their mother tongue as well. so they are well-thought. when it comes to the solutions, they try to motivate the students thinking that they are distracted easily. they try to concretize the topics as far as they can do. also they make the lesson clear by giving clear instructions to the students appropriate for their level.

  38. I want to make commant on aslı, derya and yasemin’s lesson plan.
    A) The format of the lesson plan was pretty good and appropriate for both teacher and observers ı think. There was not any problem about the format according to me.
    B) According to me the objectives were quite relevant applicable and understandable and they cover nearly all activities. But ı think activities could be a little funnier.
    C) There were enough activities in different interaction patterns and there were both individual and group work activities.
    D) ı think in term of transition between activities there was not problem but ı think if we start from the least interesting activity to the most interesting and funny one it will be better but there was not such an application in the plan.
    E) ı think they were quite clear and realistic
    F) ı completely approve patterns of interactions because in the lesson plan there are interactions between students to students and students to teacher
    G) ı think the worm up process is quite appropriate and it will start funnily
    H) ı think we don’t need to add some think but we could change some activities with some more helpful
    I) ı think the rationale part was quite realistic because it makes sense. What and why they do is clearly understood
    J) Yes it is specified clearly and this lesson plan is suitable for those learners according to me.
    K) Some potential problems and their solutions are specified in the lesson plan and ı think those solutions are enough.

  39. Firstly, I want to evaluate the lesson plan which was prepared by Kübra Gamze Şahin and Kübra Yardım.
    a) The lesson plan format is quite appropriate for both the observer and teacher, as everything is clear and well formed.
    b) I think each objective is relevant for the activities and they cover all the activities in the lesson plan. They are suitable for the beginner level and stated very well. Thus the objectives are well formed.
    b) As everything is stated clearly and activities are also put in the lesson plan, it can be quite easy for the observer or a teacher to follow the activities.
    c) Yes it includes various activities. For example, teacher do powerpoint presentation, makes pronunciation exercises, shows the toy animals to the students, do a listening activity, then want them to fill in the blanks, then they sing a song etc. They also both work in groups and individually.
    d) Yes, there is always a link between activities, all activities are done respectively and all are related to each other.
    e) I think timing is also realistic one, I estimate also about each activity in my mind, and yes the time given is appropriate (:
    f) I think the roles given to the student and the teacher are really a reasonable and feasible. I don’t see any inappropriateness in the patterns of interaction.
    g) There isn’t a specific closure part, but I think the follow up part can be suitable for closure. There is no assignment, but I think there is no need also to give them assignment, because they do enough activity in the class to learn the animals.
    h) I think this a good plan. I wouldn’t change anything.
    i) They do their rationale for the duration, topic, activities, and for the materials, this is a good thing. I think they explain everything clearly, and all the rationales are realistic.
    j) For me, the students’ previous knowledge is stated clearly and they are realistic.
    k) I think unexpected problems are also stated well; and their solutions are also logical.

Secondly, I want to make comments for the lesson plan which is prepared by Şeyma Toker, Olcay Türk, Salih Taşdemir and Canan Yurdakul.
    a) The format of the lesson plan is appropriate for the teacher and/or observer. They explain everything in respectively.
    b) The objectives are related to all activities, and they cover all activities.
    c) Yes, as everything is stated clearly, one can easily follow the teacher and learner activities.
    c) Yes, there are varieties of activities. For example students do painting along with listening music; they watch a video, pronounce vocabularies etc. They also do individual and pair work.
    d) Yes, there is a smooth transition btw the activities.
    e) Timing part is clear, but maybe the repetition part long more than 2 min. The others are realistic ones.
    f) Yes they expressed the function of teacher and the students very clearly, so I approve the patterns of interaction. (=
    g) In the closure part, teacher asks if there any question, it is a good thing. Besides, giving puzzle as homework can be enjoyable for students and make retention easier.
    h) I think it is a good plan. I wouldn’t change anything.
    I) Rationales are quite realistic ones. For example, fruits are really an enjoyable topic and as the students are hyperactive, it is good to choose TPR method. Apart from these, it is also fine to write each material and activity’s rationale.
    j) Yes, the previous knowledge specified clearly.
    k) Yes, the anticipated problems are rather specific and their solutions are also logical.

  40. secondly, ı want to comment on Salih, Olcay, Canan and Şeyma's plan.
    relevance of the format:
the general format of the plan is appropriate for the teacher and the observer. they choose beginner level students and the plan they prepare is clear.
    relevance of the objectives:
the objectives they write include all the activities in .they write objectives for each activitiy and use specific verbs to express them.
    clarity :
ı think the general format of the lesson plan is clear for both the teacher and the observer.they write the task of the teacher and the students clearly.
    variety:
they use different kinds of intelligences included in individual and group works.
ı think it is better to use group work for those students at the age of 6-8.
    transition:
they achieve to make a smooth transition between the activities they prepare. they use the material of the previous activity for the following activity providing t-ss and ss-ss interaction. so the students can be motivated better this way.
    timing:
generally, time given to each part is good but towards the end of the lesson there are few problematic parts. for example, for the model sentence part they could spare more time than the closure and assignment part because it is better for the students to see much more sample sentences.
    patterns of interaction :
    they use interaction patterns well.
they provide the students with both the individual and the group work appealing to both interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences.
the effectiveness of the closure part:
as I said timing could be better for the closure part. but it is effective to ask the students if there are any problems about the topics given. so they correct the errors is there are any.
I wouldn't change any part of the lesson plan
it is overall a well prepared lesson plan. the previous knowledge of the students are specified clearly.
the rationale they write for the lesson are realistic I think. they are prepared regarding that the students are beginner level, at the age of 6-8 and somewhat hyperactive.they use TPR method for the lesson which is very appropriate and enjoyable for the students.they divide the rationale for the activities and materials seperately. it is easier to grasp the aim.
anticipated problems and the solutions given to them are clearly pointed out.teaching 7 fruits in one lesson will be too much for the beginner students but I think with the activities they reinforce the information they have given. problems are realistic and solutions are convenient for this lesson plan I think.they try to motivate the students during the lesson and by giving clear instructions to them they prevent the students from getting cofused.

  41. Firstly, I have chosen the lesson plan by Özlem Yıldız, Beyza Tezcan and Seda Yiğit.
    a) I think my friends’ lesson plan is very well-prepared and suitable for this lesson’ pace, but at first because we all set up our lesson plans in the format of a table, it made me feel weird about the plan, but after I have examined overall the lesson plan and the steps of it, I had a concrete idea of what my friends are to tell in their lesson plan, so I decided that its steps are settled properly and understandable for the teacher and the observer at all.
    b) I think the objectives are given properly and quite related to the activities and actually they are also given before all the activities at their tops and so we can understand the activities objectives especially. The objectives are settled successfully and so, the teacher can understand the aims of the steps in the plan easily and the students can follow the activities according to given objectives seemly.
    c) I think clarity is settled very successfully and the teacher and the observer can easily follow the steps of the lesson plan and the pace of the activities. Moreover, the organization is not bad and everything is perfectly clear to be identified by any observer and teacher, but still if my friends had arranged it as table, it would have been much more appropriate.
    d) As far as I examined, the lesson plan contain various activities from different kinds of interaction such as games which serve the students a very colorful environment and communicative interactions and also the teacher supply the students with very enjoyable activities because of the topic ‘’ colors’’ and so, the students enjoy both by themselves and with their friends while they are learning the subject because the interactions are very strong in the classroom atmosphere.
    e) The transitions between the steps and the activities are very effective in order to make the lesson follow a proper pace, for example, the teacher firstly gives the words and then in order to make the students comprehend the meaning and form she makes them listen a song and hear about the pronunciation of the words, so I think the teacher connects the explanation part with listening part well and this makes her achieve the transition appropriately.
    f) When it comes to timing, my friends have written in the duration part that it is 35-minute-lesson, but if we count them, it does not suit the duration unfortunately, but the timing given for the activities is quite enough for students to manage the activities and comprehend the meaning, so they can decrease some minutes from each activity and then it will suit overall the total.

    to be continued...

    ReplyDelete
  42. as continuum of the previous one...

    g) In my friends lesson plan, there are the aims of the teacher and the explanation about what the teacher should do in how many minutes, but there is not the symbols that show the interaction between the students and the teacher, so it is a little bit confusing who are doing what even though there are detailed explanation, anyone who first looks at the plan may not understand the interactions.
    h) I think the closure part is really effective because it is very enjoyable and didactic. The assignment is very well- planned because the students would enjoy drawings about their family members and some colorful subjects, so I appreciate the idea of having such a successful closure.
    i) I think this plan is overall very successful and there is nothing that I specifically want to change about it, but I assume that the organization of it would be much more proper if it were prepared as a table and added some interaction elements such as T to Ss and Ss to Ss.
    j) I think the rationale part is really realistic because it fits with the activities given to reinforce the topic. Moreover, in the rationale the teacher cares about the personality factors of the students, meanly, their hyperactivity which affects their motivation a lot and she also sets up the activities according to the students’ personalities, so it is an element f real life and shows that the rationale is very realistic.
    k) When it comes to prerequisite knowledge, I can say that they have given all the details about it and when we look at the activities, we can see that our friends have some transitory elements which are necessary to connect the previous knowledge with the new knowledge.
    l) I think one of the best parts of the lesson plan is the anticipated problems and the solutions part because they are sincerely given very successfully and in a detailed way. I really appreciate my friends for thinking such a practical way and organized position.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Secondly, I have chosen the lesson plan by Sibel Tosun, Emine Uçak and Hatice Yurtman.
    a) I think the lesson plan format is very well- organized and colorful in terms of having so many activities and it includes so many steps related to the teacher’s aims about the lesson and the topic. Overall the lesson plan have the three of the skills steps such as firstly the listening lesson plan template, then the vocabulary and lastly the speaking lesson plan template, so any teacher and the observer can easily understand what is going on in the plan.
    b) I think the objectives are given in an ordered way and appropriately in terms of relevance with the activities given as reinforces to the skills. Objectives cover all the aims of the activities and steps following the lesson. Generally, as a topic of the day ‘’tastes and preference’’, objectives are based on the topic and the activities are set up to make students comprehend the meaning of the topic and the subjects.
    c) I think everything in this lesson plan is very well- planned and clearly given to the taste of the observer and the teacher because there are all the steps in a very detailed way and every skill are served in these steps individually, so it makes everything very well understandable and conveyed by the teacher and the observer.
    d) I think in this lesson plan, we can come across all kinds of activities from three skills, listening, vocabulary and speaking and they were prepared in a very enjoyable and didactic way in order to make the students reinforce their previous knowledge with the new ones. Moreover, this lesson plan covers various kinds of interactions thanks to group and pair works, so this makes the lesson much more effective. The teacher and the observer can easily follow up the steps and activities in the lesson plan very easily because of the clarity and variety of the lesson plan.
    e) I think the transitions are given very successfully in the lesson plan through all steps and from two dimensions, the teacher and the students. Before all the steps are settled, all the transitions are given in order make the observer and the teacher clear about the interaction patterns.
    f) I think the timing is well- organized and there is no deviation in them, but I can say that some of the activities have very little time, so they may not be achieved in such a limited time so I suppose that some of the activities can be declined or lessened in order to make the timing much more appropriate.
    g) I think the interactions are given in a proper way and everyone that take part in the learning process are identified appropriately with the help of the interaction patterns which are symbolized to make the position of the people and their communicative interactions, so anyone who looks at the lesson plan in order to understand the interactions can easily.
    h) As far as I examined, I cannot find the closure part in the lesson plan steps, so I cannot comment on it.
    i) I think it is an excellent plan and all the things are very clear for the teacher and the observer, so I think there is not much thing to be changed, but only the timing should be arranged much more carefully because there are so many activities to be settled down according to timing.
    j) I think rationale is quite realistic and it covers all the purposes underlying the steps and activities of the lesson plan and following activities show that rationale is written according o reality of the activities.
    k) I think prerequisite knowledge is given successfully and clearly, in order to make the students understand the listening activity and achieve the speaking activity, they should know those subjects and my friends have perfectly identified the prerequisite knowledge.
    l) I think anticipated problems are detected clearly and obviously in terms of the students and the technical stuff and then the solution are given appropriately to them, so I appreciate my friends for their preparing such a well- prepared lesson plan.

  44. Firstly I want to comment on the lesson plan prepared by Eda, Zehra and Belgin.
a)This lesson plan are appropriately prepared both for the teacher and the observer. Its format is good and well-organised. They hace stated all of the objecives according to their activities step by step and any observer can follow this lesson without having any difficulty.
b)The instructions of games are not completely stated in the lesso plan but because it is prepare for beginner level students, the one who looks at the plan can understand. The rest are stated appropriately.
c)The acticities are prepared by taking into consideration of different learning styles of students like kinesthetic or tactile or visual. Moreover this plan includes both individual and group work activities so it is also good.
d)In the lesson, basic fruits and colors will be taught and I think the activities were chosen very well and they are related to the topic. However between color and fruit teaching I think there could be clear transition because the subject was changed suddenly, but each subjects' activities are linked very well and they are related each other.
e)Generally the timings are good but maybe 1 minutes can be added to both warm-up and lead-in steps. Because a direct output cannot be taken from a beginnr student for remembering so it can last a little long.
f)I think the tasks are divided attentively and the interaction are always providen for students.
g)The clousure part is good because in this part the teacher gives a little homework to students and I think this provides a good reinforcement for what the students have learnt in that lesson.
g)The worksheet distributed by teacher provides a good suumary and reinforcement for the lesson.
h)It is a good and well-prepared. Timing and clousure are well organized.
i)For the beginner level language learners the given rationales are appropriate and realistic according to me.
j)The previous knowledge is stated clearly and summarized efficiently I think.
k)The anticipated problems are solved well, and they are realistic because they can be experinced in a beginnr level learner class.

  45. Firstly, I picked up the lesson plan which is prepared by Aslıgül Tüzen, Yasemin Türkarslan, Derya Yılmaz.
    a) The format of the lesson plan is suitable for both the student. The steps are clearly divided and explained.
    b) The objectives explaining the activities well. Each activity has its objective and this makes sense.
    c) the descriptions of the teacher’s and students’ activities are clear . the teacher’s and students’ activities is explained one by one.
d)Eventhough the activities are interesting and funny, there aren`t various.
    e) Activities are related with each other and the transition from one activity to one another is smooth.
f)Timing is succesful and appropriate. The time for each part seems realistic enough to apply in class.
    g) They did a grat job but maybe they should be more focused on speaking.
h)I think closure part is fine.
    i) I think generally it is fine and maybe i could change activities but it is also fine in this way.
    j) Rationale part is very realistic. They explained each activity step by step behind its logic.
    k) The pre-requisite knowledge of the students takes place in the lesson plan and I think the prequisite knowledge is also adequate for this course,
    l) They explained the anticipated problems and they suggested some solutions for these problems and I think they are really adequate.

  46. As my second lesson plan commentary I picked up the one which is prepared by Özlem, Beyza and Seda.
a)This lesson plan was prepared appropriately but I had confused with one explanation. At the beginnign the topic was introduced as "Weather" but then it was changed into "Colors". Maybe it is because of the copy which was sent to me but I could not understand. If the topic is colors, it is well prepared.
b)It is a clear lesson plan so an observer can uderstand what will be done in this lesson. The objectives are indicated clearly and suit to the acitivites.
c)Students are mostly work individually but the activities are suitable for the students.
d)The transitions are not stated clearly so it could be. However because the activites are not overloaded it can be switched to another easily.
e)Timings are clearly stated but I think they are not realistic. Because the activities are not so long and nearly all of them ar given 10 minutes so it may remain. It can be distributed more attentively.
f)The workload is indicated clearly and appropriate both for the students and the teacher, but the interaction is not defined. Students are mostly interacted with teacher not with their friends.
g)In the clousure part before giving homework the teacher can summarize the lesson briefly. Except this the homework will provide reinforcement I think.
h)It is an appropiate and well organised plan according to me. Only the timings are aranged more attentively by taking into consideration the workload of acitivities and the length of them.
i)The rationale are good and realistic. The thing I can say that the objectives and the aims are so similar that I have difficulty in differentiating them. However the rationales are stated clearly.
j)The previous knowledge is stated clearley and intagreated with the new lesson successfully.
k)The anticipated problems are stated and solved efficiently. The only problem which is that students cannot understand the song iis not solved appropriately I think. However it si not a big part of the lesson it is covered with other activities so this situation can be swtiched into another one without having problem.

  47. I will evaluate the lesson plan which is prepared by Beyza, Seda and Özlem.
    A) The format of this lesson plan is very clear and both teacher can observer can follow it up. Steps are stated orderly and in a logical way. This makes it easier to follow.
    B) Objectives cover all the activities that they are going to do in the classroom. They wrote an objective for every activity. They are stated well-organized and very understandable.
    C) Just by looking at the plan, anybody can easily follow the plan. They explained everything step by step.
    D) In this plan, there are many activities appealing to kinesthetic, visual, musical, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences. Songs, touching colors and working in groups supports these intelligences.
    E) In fact, there is no transition written in the plan. However, teachers always have ideas about the course of lesson. So, teacher can manage it without writing it to lesson plan.
    F) Infact, timing in this plan is just estimated. Imean they did not think much about time. So, this might lead some problems such as needing a contingency plan or no left-time. So, they should be more specific about it instead of just giving a step 10 minutes.
    G) Interaction of this plan is good enough. Both teacher and students are communicating actively during the learning process.
    H) Ithink closure part was pretty good. They are giving assignments to students but the striking point is they are including their parents leaking into their real, daily life.
    I) Un many ways, it is a good plan. However, the thing that I want to change is eliminating some new vocabulary items. Because I think that beginner level students should not learn so many words in one lecture. This will be a burden for them.
    J) Their rationale is pretty realistic. Thay are concerned about students and try to make useful activities for them. So, they support their ideas strongly.
    K) learners' previous knowledge specified clearly.I t is clearly stated in the plan and also they used it in their lesson integratedly.
    L) Anticipated problems and their solutions are specified clearly and the solutions are realistic and applicable.

  48. The second lesson plan that I am going to evaluate is prepared by tuğba, ayşenur and duygu.
    A) The teacher and the observer can easily follow up this lesson plan; because they stated everything step by step and using a chart was useful, also.
    B) Objectives and activities ware well-integrated and appropriate for the student profile.
    C) Activities and the students' and teacher's duties are clearly stated. You can easily understand from the plan who is going to do what.
    D) This plan does not always many intelligences. Maybe it is because of the student profile and the TOEFL exam. However, teacher should be more appealing to more intelligences.
    E) Even if the links between the activities are not clearly defined, we can estimate what teacher is going to do.
    F) Their timing is good and easily applicable. Maybe they shoukld learn do more things in a limited time; because they are preparing for an exam in whinh the time is limited.
    G) In fact, they are not doing anything for he closure part. This might be relaxing for students but maybe they will remember this lesson hardly. Teacher should do sth to help students remember this week's lesson more easily except for summarizing the lesson.
    H) This is a good plan. However, they should use more measurable terms in the objectives. They cannot measure understand or know.
ı) Their rationale's emphasis is on technical part such as compuer or electricity. Maybe they should be concerned about students and the classroom environment.
    J) Learners' previous knowledge is specified clearky but I could not see these topic integrated with the lesson.
    K) Problems and solutions are stated logically. Again the emphasis was on technical part. They should focus on students more deeply, in my opinion.

  49. My first evaluation is for Hatice, Sibel and Emine’s lesson plan.
    a) In my opinion the general format is appropriate for both teacher and observer. Because the activities and objectives are explained clearly and they are suitable for intermediate level.
    b) The activities are based on listening and speaking, the objectives cover these activities. And they are also well-formed. But I think they could have explain the objectives more detailed.
    c) They have explained the activities step by step in a detailed way so it is easy to follow them for both the teacher and the observer.
    d) The activities are generally intrapersonal, but there is one activity during which the students work in pairs. The role of teacher is I think a bit more than the students. I think they should give more importance to the student – student interaction rather than the activities during which the student is working individually.
    e) I think the transitions are very smooth. After the warm-up part, they listen to a conversation then they learn the unknown words of it. After the vocabulary teaching, the speaking activity comes whose subject is also related to the listening activity.
    f) I think the timing is realistic except for the speaking activity. In my opinion 10 minutes aren’t enough for group forming and discussing.
    g) The interactions are well given and appropriate.
    h) There is not any follow- up task and assessment of learning.
    i) I can say that this is an average lesson plan. There may be more activities and as I said before they should give more importance to the interpersonal activities.
    j) They give rationale for their choice of topic which I find realistic. Because they say that the students want to speak on this topic as they all know about their own tastes and they want to learn about the others’. The second rationale is for their opening activity which is listening. They say that they have chosen to start with this activity as a preparation for speaking that I find effective. After the students listen to the conversation I think they are more likely to speak. And the third rationale is for fill in the blanks activity but I did not find it realistic because fill in the blank activity should be used for all levels as long as the listening is appropriate for the students. I think they should state a more informative and supportive rationale for this activity.
    k) Yes, it is specified clearly. In order to speak about their tastes, the students should know the tenses and some modals, and they specified them clearly.
    l) Yes, they are specified but there may be more unexpected problems for example the students may not want to speak. As a solution to mispronunciation they offered to write the phonetic transcription of the words but do the students know phonetics?

  50. The second lesson plan I have chosen is the one which is prepared by Beyza, Seda and Özlem.
    a) The general format is quite clear I think both the teacher and the observer can follow it easily.
    b) They write clear objectives for all of the activities that they are going to do in the class.
    c) The activities are explained in a clear and detailed way so it is easy to follow up the lesson from the plan.
    d) They give place for activities which appeal to different intelligences such as visual, kinaesthetic etc.
    e) I think there are not very clear transitions between the steps but there is an order.
    f) As this is a class full of beginner and young learners, the activities they prepared may take much more time then they estimated.
    g) During the lesson there are both student to student and teacher to student interaction.
    h) They give an assignment as a closure. I like the assignment because it both helps students to repeat what they learned in the class and it is authentic, from the real life.
I ) All in all, I think this lesson plan is a good one because it is prepared according to the needs and the characteristics of the students and there are lots of different enjoyable activities. However, I should lessen the number of vocabulary because I think it will be difficult for them to learn this much of vocabulary at one time.
    J) The rationale they have written is quite realistic. They know their students and plan their activities according to them.
    k) I think it is well stated in the lesson plan.
    l) I think they estimated the problems very well. And the solutions are very effective, also realistic.
